The Coral Springs Police Department said on Thursday that it’s open to joining Broward County’s 911 call system, a decision that would streamline the emergency response process across the county.

The state body investigating the Parkland school shooting met at the BB&T Center for the final of its three-day meetings this month to discuss failures with Broward County’s emergency system during the shooting.

The commission tasked with investigating the Parkland school shooting discussed on Wednesday how Broward County and the Broward Sheriff's Office communicate and split duties when responding to emergencies.

Stoneman Douglas shooter Nikolas Cruz had a well-documented history of severe behavioral problems. And yet he easily purchased firearms with his state ID card on his 18th birthday. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said Tuesday that Cruz’s mother helped him to buy those guns.

During the first five minutes of the state's second Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission meeting, the chair of the group, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, read a letter from Andrew Pollack, announcing his resignation from the commission.

Parents of teenagers who were murdered on Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School asked a commission tasked with investigating the massacre to report any findings that could help make schools safer as quickly as possible.
