Survey: Florida Lags In Healthiest Cities

Florida cities have some perks when it comes to healthy living, but overall they don’t make the cut when it comes to a newly published list of healthiest cities in the United States.

There’s no doubt the South Beach Wine and Food Festival includes many mouth-watering events. The Amstel Light Burger Bash and the Death By Chocolate Dessert Party certainly paint images of dietary free-falls.

But the festival is also starting to reflect growing health trends that are sweeping the nation.  

In only two years, the Buddhas and Bellinis event has become a huge hit. On both Saturday and Sunday of the festival, 200 people gathered by the pool of the Raleigh Hotel on South Beach for a yoga class.

03/26/14 - Wednesday's Topical Currents looks at the major phenomenon of the natural foods movement in the US.  Yearly revenues exceed $100-billion.  Natural and organic food adulation returned during the height of the “counter-culture” years, but then took hold as lucrative business.  We’ll speak with the former marketing director of Whole Foods, Joe Dobrow . . .

08/19/13 - Monday’s Topical Currents is with health writer Jo Robinson.  Her latest book discusses of nutrition, and the eons of time when humans subsisted on wild flora and fauna. Her latest book is EATING ON THE WILD SIDE:  The Missing Link to Optimum Health. After generations of breeding more palatable fruits and vegetables, much of their original nutritional clout has been diluted. Robinson has tips to reclaim the nutrients and flavors lost.

05/21/13- Tuesday's Topical Currents is with nutritionists Jayson and Mira Calton. They’ve developed a system to determine the healthiest options among the some 40,000 food offerings in the mega-mart. With a bit of effort, shoppers can avoid processed sugars, high fructose corn syrup, refined flour, artificial colors, and nitrites. They’ve written, RICH FOOD/POOR FOOD:  THE ULTIMATE GROCERY PURCHASING SYSTEM. That’s Topical Currents at 1pm on
