Topical Currents

A World More Concrete: Real Estate & The Remaking Of Jim Crow South Florida

10/28/14 - Today’s Topical Currents looks at the history of real estate and land usage in South Florida, since the inception of the City of Miami to today’s three-county urban mass. Not unlike other American communities, Miami’s black population was exploited by white entrepreneurs and politicians . . . but historian Nathan Connolly also uncovers key black figures engaged in the same practices as well, changing forever how we think about segregation . He’s written, A WORLD MORE CONCRETE:  Real Estate and the Remaking of Jim Crow South Florida. That’s Topical Currents with Joseph Cooper & Bonnie Berman Tuesday at 1pm on 91.3 WLRN.

WLRN Radio's Joseph Cooper says producing and hosting Topical Currents is the most rewarding experience of his long radio career, which began at the University of Missouri School of Journalism in the 1970s.
Richard Ives came to WLRN in September 2000 to begin a new career in radio. Born in Fort Lauderdale, his family moved to Long Island, New York, where he grew up.
