Since Julia Tuttle’s arrival in 1891, Miami has grown like crazy: more people, more homes, more roads, more
boom. Dense tropical hardwood trees that covered the City of Miami were chopped down and urbanization moved west into the Everglades.
All month long, WLRN and our partners at O, Miami Poetry Festival have been collecting poems either starting or ending with "That's So Miami" and compiling them on our Tumblr page. And because development is so central to South Florida's economy, it's no surprise that the Magic City's unrelenting growth has become a popular theme warranting its own category: Best of Miami, I Love to Hate You.

The results will be announced at our That's So Miami Contest Reading this Sunday, April 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the Betsy Hotel. The winners will be invited to share the stage with poet Richard Blanco, who participated in this year's U.S. presidential inauguration. Each winning poem will be read at the O, Miami Finale, which will be also be held on Sunday at the New World Symphony at 7:00 p.m.
