Palm Beach International Film Festival

On the schedule for this year's Palm Beach International Film Festival are some of the usual suspects: Independent films starring Hollywood stars given the freedom to explore something outside of the typecasting norm. But the festival, which kicks off today, also includes an opportunity for South Floridians to become the star of the show while literally exploring a city's real and imagined history.

"The Search for Linton's Treasure" is an "arts concept of an interactive movie" as dreamt up by the team at Delray Interactive Movie. Members of the public are invited to "star" in the mystery film.

The endeavor calls for a scavenger hunt throughout Delray Beach in search of William S. Linton's supposed "treasure." The pseudo-film's PG plotline includes a murder, but organizers say the event is otherwise family-friendly.

The interactive movie experience is at 10 a.m. Sunday, departing from DIG Restaurant, 777 E. Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. The cost is $10 per person and includes a light breakfast at the restaurant. Participants receive a packet of instructions complete with a secret call number and other cloak and dagger details. Watch the trailer at the bottom of this post before participating.

In the more traditional, sit-your-butt-in-a-seat-and-watch realm of movie-going, the festival features a lineup of daily film screenings in every genre, from a documentary about a Sudanese refugee (Lost Boy Home) to a star-studded indie (Decoding Anne Parker).

The festival debuts tonight with a screening party for Decoding Anne Parker and will continue through Thursday, April 11. In addition to dozens of screenings held throughout Palm Beach County, the festival includes parties, mixers, film discussions, and opportunities for star spotting. A full list of films can be found here and tickets can be purchased online
