About 250 people lined up for a job fair hosted by The Miami Omni Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) on Thursday near downtown Miami to hire workers for the construction of the Florida Film and Television Center.

North Carolina film company EUE/Screen Gems Studios has partnered with the Omni CRA to build the 82,000-square-foot studio at Northwest Miami Court and 14th Street.

Pieter Bockweg is the executive director of the Omni CRA. He says not only will the studio create jobs in the community but it will revitalize the area.

“It’s definitely going to bring attention to the area," says Bockweg. "We look forward to [the film studio] being the catalyst for attracting some of those businesses.”

The Florida Film and Television Center is under construction across the street from the Omni CRA job fair.

The Florida Film and Television Center will have two 15,000-square-foot sound stages and 12,000 square feet of office space and editing suites. The company will also offer South Florida university students the opportunity to intern with the company.

Just a block away, the first floor of the historically-designated Omni CRA headquarters will be turned into a restaurant, says Bockweg, which is a step in the direction of revitalizing the area.

Construction for the studio is expected to be completed by August.
