How To Get Back Home After Your New Year's Eve Party

New Year celebrations will be take over South Florida hotels, restaurants and nightclubs as 2016 approaches.

If you had one too many drinks and don’t have a designated driver, there’s help. And here we tell you where to get it:

  • AAA is offering free rides for you and your car through its Tow to Go program. It takes you within a 10-mile radius from your pickup location.  The service is open to everyone in the state of Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, and there’s no need to be a AAA member. But it is designed to be used only as a last resort. That is, if you had too much to drink and there’s no one else to take you home.

The phone number to request a ride is 855-286-9246. The tow trucks can take up to two people home.

  • For those of you who are dancing the night away in Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade Transit’s Metrorail and Metromover services will be extended until 4 a.m. The Metrorail will run every 30 minutes starting at 2 a.m. and the Metromover will also operate frequently.

Parking at Metrorail stations will remain open Jan. 1.

The Metrobus add frequency on New Year’s Eve.

Also, bus routes that continue to run 24-hours a day are: 3, 11, 27, 38, L, and S. There are also two routes that run mainly overnight: the Night Owl 246 and the Midnight Owl 500.

Detailed information on New Year’s Eve schedule can be found here.

On Jan. 1, public transportation will operate on a Sunday schedule.

  • In Broward and Palm Beach counties, transit operations will use regular schedules. In Palm Beach county, all public transit will be shut down on New Year’s Day.
  • If you are partying in the Keys, know that there will be road closures beginning around 11 a.m., which will interrupt regular bus services.

There are “Safe Ride” shuttles from Key West to Marathon, city bus shuttles and Lower Keys shuttles that will start operating from 5 p.m. until the last pickup at 2:45 a.m.

The designated drop off/pick up area is Fausto's on Fleming and Bahama streets in Key West after 5 p.m. Prices vary depending on the shuttle service. More information can be foundhere.

  • Taxis, Uber and Lyft services will also be available.
