Special election primaries for Florida State Senate District 40 and House District 116 will take place Tuesday. Mail-in voting is already underway, and early voting began July 15th.
The Senate District 40 seat was vacated when Republican Frank Artiles resigned in April after making a series of offensive remarks to two other lawmakers in a Tallahassee bar. Republican Jose Felix Diaz chose to resign from his seat in the state house to run to replace Artiles, opening up another seat in House District 116.
Senate District 40 is located in Miami-Dade County and includes much of Kendall and Glenvar Heights. House District 116 partially overlaps with Senate District 40, and also contains parts of Doral, Kendall, Sunset Drive, University Park, Westchester and Fountainebleau.
General elections for both races will take place September 26th.
