A Fond Farewell To WLRN Morning Edition Host Wanda Myles

WLRN Morning Edition host Wanda Myles has been helping South Florida wake up for more than a decade.

For many of us, she has been the bright voice that wakes us up in the mornings and spends time with us in kitchens, offices and car as the sun rises over the ocean and our days get going.

Today (March 28) marks her last day at WLRN. We wish her nothing but the best of luck in her next adventure.

But before she leaves our studios, we want to take a moment to share some of our favorite things about Wanda off and on the airwaves.

"Usually on Monday mornings, I am the second person to arrive at the station's downtown studios to prepare The Sunshine Economy. It's usually before sunrise and the station is quiet except for Master Control where Wanda is working. Wanda usually has made a carafe of coffee, which is ours to share until the rest of the staff starts coming in. Thanks Wanda, for the bright voice in the mornings, and for the coffee." – Tom Hudson, vice president of news

"I will miss Wanda's beautiful smile! Always there no matter how early it was that day!" - Bonnie Berman, co-host of Topical Currents

"She's a dang fine host. Hosting Morning Edition is no easy job, but Wanda handled it with a level of poise and grace that few possess. Her bright voice and sunny demeanor will be greatly missed." - Bridget O'Brien, associate producer of news

"It has been so comforting to hear her voice every morning. It is sterling, polished and professional." - Terence Shepherd, news director

"One of the things I miss most, and will now miss a lot more, was when I got to work downtown in the same studios as Wanda. Because at least a couple times per hour she would walk out of the studio singing... and it could be just about anything. Morning shifts are tough, but she was like a walking cup of chippy caffeine that made a morning go by smoothly. Wherever she goes, she'll bring that chippiness with her, and her future co-workers will appreciate it." – Luis Hernandez, morning news anchor

"Your morning non-sequiturs as you cross the newsroom on breaks have always brightened my day." - Rowan Moore Gerety, education reporter

"Wanda has been the only voice of Morning Edition I have known. Since my first day at WLRN, my sometimes grueling commute has been softened by the sound of her voice, and the warmth of her smile as I walked in off the road. There is now a big space to fill on our air." - Jason Zabka, radio operations manager

"To run into Wanda during her morning shift was to run into the embodiment of cool. How anyone who gets up at what, 4 a.m. every day? Earlier? ... can be that breezy and laid back and cool at that hour at work. Well, hats off to you. I'm certain that more than one of those times we ran into each other on opposite ends of our working days, and it was always a treat to get to see the face behind the voice. Thanks Wanda, for being the sound of my mornings for 10 years." – Alicia Zuckerman, editorial director

"Green with envy.  There are very few voices on air that I feel that way about.  When I grow up, I want Wanda's voice." -- Christine DiMattei, afternoon news anchor
