Low-wage jobs in Florida are one of the main reasons families live in poverty or near poverty, according to a new study by Florida International University.

The yearly report, “State of Working Florida,” found Florida’s economy to be unbalanced and unequal.

While unemployment numbers are down statewide, that has not made a dent in income disparity across the state.

Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa weighed in on the deadly encounter between Eric Garner and New York police officers during a television appearance on WPLG's This Week in South Florida.

Orosa said when one of the officers placed Garner in an apparent chokehold, it was improper procedure. He said the grand jury’s recent decision not to indict the officer was a surprise.

Due to a labor dispute, dozens of Caribbean Airlines pilots called in sick Tuesday, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

Nearly all of the Trinidad-based airline's flights were disrupted across the Caribbean and in major hubs such as Miami, New York and London.

Airline spokesman Clint Williams says the company is in touch with travelers affected by the sick-out and has provided alternate flights for them.
