In Florida, 16- and 17-year-olds can get married to someone of any age with the signature of a parent. If a girl is pregnant, she can get married at any age, even at 10 and 11- years old.

But, a bill trying to cut down on under-age marriages is moving its way through the Florida Legislature, with the hope that it will end that practice.

First Conscious Kids Fest Draws Hundreds

Mindfulness can make you a superhero. That was the message at the first Conscious Kids Festival at Unity on the Bay, a church in Miami, this weekend.

"I liked learning about my body," said Ben Schabacker, age 8. During the festival's opening ceremonies, he watched a screening of part of an episode of Avatar: the Last Airbender that explained the body's seven chakras. 

Ben and his family participated in a kids' yoga class later in the day, practicing tree pose, cat-cow, and wheel.

10/17/13 - Thursday’s Topical Currents begins with Mark and Sandy Horowitz.  They’re the parents of 14 year old son Ian. They’ve authored the book, I WISH I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW:  A Guide for Special Needs Parents.  Young Ian suffers from a brain structure disorder.  The Horowitz’s give advice for parents of special needs kids.

When Donald Cottrell, principal at Sunset School in Fort Lauderdale, first heard about the concept of Eco-Art Therapy -- which fuses education on environmental issues with art in a therapeutic context -- he was hooked.

It was more than seven years ago, and at the time, he was principal of Broadview Elementary School. He heard Byron Swart, an active force in Broward County's arts scene, present the idea at a City of Tamarac meeting.
