It’s an iconic American holiday tradition like fireworks on the Fourth of July, trick or treating on Halloween or hunting for Easter eggs. Every year on Thanksgiving Day before the family gathers around the table for a celebratory feast, all eyes are on the Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Its the big day and the band is running on pure adrenaline. For them, sleep was not in the cards. Far from the land of Sunshine these students are now having to endure the wind and the cold, but that's okay, the energy from the crowd makes them forget all about it. For this is one of life's most memorable moments...
This is it! The last "official" rehearsal inside the Sheraton Ballroom before the big day. Yes, I said inside because outside it's been raining, cold and I could swear I saw a snow flurry or two. That could be me though, a typical Floridian looking for the excitement that snow brings. Momentarily of course!
There will be one more rehearsal at 3 am the day of the parade for the NBC crew. The students have a whopping 10 minute time slot to perform their "American Reunion" themed piece for the cameras.
Three different airlines transporting upwards of 180 students arriving at three different airports and somehow, if the wind blows just right and the planets are are aligned, everyone is to meet at Grand Central Station.
The countdown to the 87th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is on! With three weeks to go, the Tarpon Springs Leadership Conservatory for the Arts is practicing up to 10 hours on some days or shall I say nights. The energy is high and the anticipation grows stronger each passing day, though the time is going by so fast. These students are amazing and I can barely keep up. This is truly an incredible team, from the staff to the students and parental support, everyone is dedicated to the success of this program. Do people really know the talent that exists at this school in this qu
The journey continues for the Tarpon Springs High School Leadership Conservatory for the Arts on their quest to march for Macy’s. In the last several months, I have had the privilege of documenting the progress of these fine young leaders who are the most dedicated, meticulous, and artistically driven individuals to ever cross my path. Along with their talent and ambition for overall success, they are embarking on what could be one of the most noteworthy moments in their lives, performing at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City before millions of pe
Members of our WLRN team headed to the Big Apple on June 25th to meet with Macy's Executives about "THE BIG DAY". I'm speaking of The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade of course! I'm not really sure who is more excited about our JOURNEY TO THE MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE production... Macy's or us!
Thousands of participants take to the streets of Manhattan to trek 2 ½ miles in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade showcasing giant balloons, spectacular floats, sensational performances and mingling throughout the parade are hundreds of crowd pleasing clowns.
Two of these participants are Macy's parade clowns and Fort Lauderdale residents, Charles and Kitty Tatelbaum who are 2011 graduates of Clown U, sponsored by New York's Big Apple Circus.
WLRN's upcoming documentary, "Journey to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" will chronicle their experiences to the Big Apple.
As part of their journey to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Tarpon Springs High School Marching Band put on a 5K fundraising event called BAND ON THE RUN. Faculty, parents, students and the community laced up their shoes and hit the pavement in support of the cause. The band must raise $400,000 for their trip to New York and have scheduled a series of fundraising events throughout the next few months. Keep checking back to monitor their progress!
We are proud to announce the Tarpon Springs High School Marching Band will be representing the state of Florida in the 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They are one of only ten marching bands chosen to participate in this year’s parade due to their elaborately choreographed and dramatic productions. From practice to performance and everything in between, WLRN will document their journey on this once in a lifetime opportunity.
