Scottish Thespians Forego The Stage To Sing And Dance At Miami Bar

Drinking, singing and Scottish theater will all take hold of Miami's BAR 337, formerly the PAX space, during the production of "The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart."

The National Theatre of Scotland will interpret the play as part of Miami Dade College's "Live Arts" series. 

The play is performed in "immersive style." Unlike in traditional theater, there is no stage. The actors use the locale and whatever props are present to move the story forward.

'Horrifically Beautiful' And Bloody 'Salome' Comes To Palm Beach Opera

Blood, lust, incest, and revenge are on the bill at Salome at Palm Beach Opera.

Incest. Psychosis. Sexual taboo. Murder. A make-out session involving a severed head. Salome isn't the typical night at the opera. Likewise, the production at Palm Beach Opera this weekend is something of a departure for the South Florida cultural institution. 

"For us, German repertoire is not so often done," said Scott Guzielek, Palm Beach Opera director of artistic operations. "It's a great way for our audience to be exposed to a different style of music."

 Andrew Kato, producing artistic director for Maltz Jupiter Theatre, would never criticize another South Florida theater company, especially for following its artistic vision. The fact remains, however, that the theater he oversees -- which just nabbed 23 nominations in the Carbonell Awards -- is flourishing while other South Florida theaters have shuttered their doors.
