Haulover Beach is known as a place to abandon clothing while having fun in the sun but the nude beach is now extending its welcome to dogs.

The beach is expanding the visiting options for canines from three days a week to seven, an exciting prospect for Pepper and her owner Kelly Newman.

Key Westers and their canine companions, more specifically ones of the short-legged variety, took to the streets Wednesday for the island's 10th annual Dachshund Walk. This year an estimated 175 dachshunds took part, along with 75 dogs of other breeds, including a chihuahua flash mob.

When Cancer Comes Calling: The Canine Kind

I'm not sure I really "battled" breast cancer back in 2002, as much as it battled me. But after a year of two chemotherapies, radiation and surgery, cancer and I agreed to a draw. We went back to our respective corners, both tired of this fight.

You always wonder when cancer will come back. And for me, so far -- and knock on wood or formica or perhaps a granite kitchen countertop -- it hasn't.

Yet, in a way I never expected, it has.

Over the weekend,  more than 250 dogs competed in an American Kennel Club event at Miami-Dade County’s Tropical Park. Anyone in attendance learned that canine athletes are capable of feats humans can only dream of doing and would never dream of doing.
