HITLER'S MEGASHIPS - Learn about Hitlers dream to build the biggest Navy in the world. When Hitler comes to power he strengthens all his military forces, but his weakest is his Navy. In violation of the Treat of Versailles Hitler embarked on a program to build massive battleships but was only able to produce two; Bismarck and Tirpitz. To the frustration of his naval commanders Hitler found the ships far more valuable as propaganda weapons then warships. But they were obsolete almost as soon the they were launched and both succumbed to the emerging dominance of air power.

 
 
9pm World War II: The Price of Empire - History - A tale of two wars that have often been labeled as a single, all-encompassing global clash: the War of the East and the War of the West. Taking place of opposite sides of the globe, these simultaneous conflicts redrew the political map of the modern world as once-dominant powers fell and new ones rose to take their place.

 

 

A DAY IN INFAMY: The events of 1941 are recalled, including the German advance in Russia, which stalls at Moscow. Also: Japan occupies Southern Vietnam and Cambodia; and, on December 7th, attacks the American Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

 
10pm PEARL HARBOR: USS OKLAHOMA: THE FINAL STORY - History

Explore what happened to the USS Oklahoma, the only battleship to capsize during the Pearl Harbor attack. Examine new details about what may have caused the ship to overturn and hear stories from Oklahoma survivors and families of those lost.   

Mia Laurenzo is a 35-year veteran of public television in Miami. She began her career learning every aspect of video production. Currently she is a writer, producer, on-air host and promotions coordinator for TV, radio and the web.  Her experiences include producing for a series, special events and historical documentaries.  As a native Floridian, she is a perfect fit for South Florida's Storyteller Station, WLRN.  She has produced several award winning, nationally distributed documentaries and is the recipient of three Suncoast Regional Emmys.
