As "South Florida's Storyteller" station, we’ve produced more original programs about your community and surrounding locations in the Sunshine State.  So we decided to dig deep into the WLRN vault to showcase our viewer’s top picks.  Like Weird Florida: On the Road Again, Plastic Paradise, Deep City: the Birth of the Miami Sound and Hialeah Speedway: No Guts, No Glory.  It all starts tonight at 7 on your Storyteller Station, WLRN-TV.

WEIRD FLORIDA: ON THE ROAD AGAIN (7 pm) A one-hour documentary hosted by “Florida’s Master of the Weird”, Charlie Carlson, and his curious canine, Lady Isabel. The duo set off to travel over 1500 miles across the Sunshine State in search of some very unusual people and places, only to discover Florida’s best-kept secrets and oddest legends.

PLASTIC PARADISE (8 pm) Find out how a dedicated group of culture vultures unearthed America’s 20th century obsession with Polynesia and created their own Plastic Paradise — hipsters, hula girls, and mermaids included.

DEEP CITY: THE BIRTH OF THE MIAMI SOUND (9 pm) tells the story of how two musical geniuses created the first black-owned record label in Florida and changed the face of soul music in Miami forever.

HIALEAH SPEEDWAY: NO GUTS, NO GLORY (1o pm) Hialeah Speedway, the legendary South Florida racetrack, was more than just a place. It was a moment in time, captured through the roar of the racecars on a Saturday night; on a short flat track that was once considered one of the most challenging in the country.

Mia Laurenzo is a 35-year veteran of public television in Miami. She began her career learning every aspect of video production. Currently she is a writer, producer, on-air host and promotions coordinator for TV, radio and the web.  Her experiences include producing for a series, special events and historical documentaries.  As a native Floridian, she is a perfect fit for South Florida's Storyteller Station, WLRN.  She has produced several award winning, nationally distributed documentaries and is the recipient of three Suncoast Regional Emmys.
