Pretty In Pink Redux In Miami

imdb.com

At long last, brat pack heartthrobs Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy will cross paths again.  They're both appearing at the Miami Book Fair International on the same day, in the same room ... but not, sadly, at the same time. They'll be separated by five hours. Ohhhhhhh.

Maybe they'll run into each other in the hall.

Molly Ringwaldwill be reading from her new novel, When it Happens to You, about "the complexities of modern relationships," according to the folks at the book fair. She's also a busy Los Angeles mom. You can hear all about that in her appearance at the live storytelling series, The Moth.

Meanwhile, AndrewMcCarthy's new memoir sounds a lot like the plot of a latter-day brat pack movie, actually (or another Judd Apatow film). In The Longest Way Home: One Man's Quest for the Courage to Settle Down,  the guy who played the cad-turned-sweet, sweet boyfriend in Pretty in Pink, chronicles his real-life commitment issues.  His wanderlust has served him well. McCarthy has blossomed into a respected travel writer. He's an editor-at-large with National Geographic Traveler, and in 2010, the organization American Travel Writers named him Travel Journalist of the Year.

Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy discuss their work Sunday, Nov. 18 at Miami Dade College's Chapman Conference Center (Building 3), Room 3210. She's at 11 a.m.; he's at 4 p.m.  Weekend Book Fair admission: $8. Tickets(free) required for both events.
