  At first sight, penguins seem ill-suited to their environment - rotund abdomens, stubby little legs and stiff wings appear to make the going tough. But in fact it is these very traits that enable this bird to thrive. Chris explores details of the penguin's anatomy, using new scientific research to reveal how its legs, wings and body shape have allowed it to conquer an extraordinary range of habitats, from deep forests to tropical waters, bustling cities and even the toughest place on the planet - Antarctica.

8pm NATURE: Animal Reunions - Nature/Documentary

What happens when people are reunited with the wild animals with which they forged a deep bond years ago? Will these gorillas, elephants, cheetahs and chimpanzees still recognize their human caregivers and how will they react? That is the premise of this program which also raises the question whether wild creatures can really experience emotions like joy, devotion, and love.

  No animal reflects human social change as much as the dog. While dogs have been mankind's hunting buddies for millennia, in the modern world they also serve as companions, help the disabled, diagnose cancer, or sniff for drugs. BUDDIES - HOW DOGS DISCOVERED MAN reflects upon this shared cultural history, exploring the origins of a number of breeds and investigating the ways in which our relationship with dogs has changed. This informative and entertaining documentary takes a closer look at the intersection of nature and culture — a cinematic crossover sure to appeal to history buffs and dog lovers alike.

Mia Laurenzo is a 35-year veteran of public television in Miami. She began her career learning every aspect of video production. Currently she is a writer, producer, on-air host and promotions coordinator for TV, radio and the web.  Her experiences include producing for a series, special events and historical documentaries.  As a native Floridian, she is a perfect fit for South Florida's Storyteller Station, WLRN.  She has produced several award winning, nationally distributed documentaries and is the recipient of three Suncoast Regional Emmys.
