North Miami has named the police officer who shot an unarmed black man on Monday.
Officer Jonathan Aledda is a member of the SWAT team and joined the department four years ago.
Aledda shot Charles Kinsey, a healthcare worker, who was helping a man with autism after he wandered away from the MACtown group home where Kinsey worked.
Aledda is on paid administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.
City officials also announced that another officer, Commander Emile Hollant, was placed on administrative leave without pay.
City Manager Larry Spring said Hollant provided conflicting statements about what happened the day of the shooting but declined to go into details about those statements at the press conference Friday afternoon.
"I am well aware of the public sentiment. We have received hundreds of calls and emails at the police department and City Hall. I can assure you, we are listening," said Spring, who announced the establishment of a hotline for community members to call with information or comments about the case, as well as a Free Speech zone outside the North Miami Police Department so people can express their sentiments. "I have made it clear that i will not tolerate anything that goes against the process,of obtaining the truth in this matter, "said the North Miami mayor, Smith Joseph, during the press conference. "The city of North Miami is transparent and we are a responsible government."
