North Miami High Principal Removed After Defending Texas Pool Party Officer

Miami Dade County Public Schools

A North Miami High School principal has been removed from his post after making comments online about a racially charged incident in Texas.

Alberto Iber had defended a white police officer who resigned Tuesday after slamming a 14-year-old black girl to the ground and pulling his gun on teenagers at a pool party.

In comments posted in response to an article on the Miami Herald website,Iber supported the actions of McKinney, Texas, officer Eric Casebolt.

Casebolt was called to a pool party in the predominantly white suburb after neighbors complained about a disturbance involving black teenagers.

A video shows him waving his gun at the young people and slamming the bikini-clad girl on the ground.

Principal Iber’s defense of the officer’s actions was captured in a screenshot.

Iber wrote, “I commend him for his actions.” He added, “the officer feared for his life.”

The McKinney Police Department called the officer’s actions “indefensible.”

In a statement explaining why Iber has been removed as principal of North Miami High, Superintendent Alberto Carvahlo wrote, “Insensitivity -- intentional or perceived -- is both unacceptable and inconsistent with our policies.”

North Miami High has a predominantly black student body.
