New Gripping Seasons of Vera and Midsomer Murders

9pm Tuesday VERA - Crime/Drama

THE PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL COLLIDE IN SEASON 6 OF VERA
“Not many actors can pull off shambolic and effective, but Blethyn can do it with a single, penetrating glance from beneath that hat." –The Guardian, February 1, 2016

VERA’s  intricate  plot  twists,  critically  lauded  performances  and  beautiful scenery have earned the show a reputation as an exquisitely crafted, classic crime drama. Based on the popular novels by Ann Cleeves, this compelling, character -driven British series has continually  garnered  high ratings  since  its  U.S.  premiere  in  2012.  Academy  Award - nominee  and  BAFTA - winner, Brenda  Blethyn  has  earned  widespread  acclaim  for  her  star  turn  as Chief  Inspector  Vera Stanhope, a   brilliant   murder   investigator   and   kind-hearted   loner   with workaholic tendencies. Season  six  of VERA presents four  new  installments, the  third  of  which (“The  Moth  Catcher”)  was adapted directly from  an  Ann  Cleeves  book.

In  the  season  premiere, DCI  Stanhope’s loses one of their own while investigating the death of a woman whose life was marred by  drugs,  secrets  and  strained  family  relationships.  Despite  being  shaken  by  these events,  Vera  continues  to  take  on  new  cases, including the  mysterious  death  of a teenager with a troubled family history, a double murder at a remote country estate, and the death of a grieving widower in a small fishing community.
