The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science opened Monday in its new location in downtown Miami.

An enthusiastic crowd welcomed the open doors, a line wrapping around the corner of the entrance for parts of the day.

Ava Santiesteban shows off her drawings inspired by the museum's aquarium.

“I think it’s really cool, like they really outdid themselves,” said 13-year-old Ava Santiesteban.

She was at the museum opening day celebrating her birthday and skipping school.

“For education of course, I’m skipping school to learn,” Santiesteban laughed.

Her sister Luce, 7 years old, says she loved seeing all the fish and snakes, which she wanted to learn more about.

“We tried to pet the stingrays,  but they kept leaving us, like,  ‘nope we’re going to go,’ ” said Luce. “What I think is that one day I want to discover a new species of fish. I would call the fish Lucy fish.”

The new museum features a 500,000-gallon aquarium tank with fish and sharks you can walk underneath — a big hit with Ava and Luce.

The museum will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
