Most major education institutions in South Florida announced closures in advance of Hurricane Matthew's expected impact on South Florida
Miami-Dade and Broward County Public Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday. Broward College announced the same. But as of Wednesday morning, Miami Dade College students were still waiting to find out if they would have classes.
Students took to social media imploring the school to please close.
"Whose life are they playing with," wrote Bailey Monroe on Facebook. "They need to just go ahead and cancel those classes right this minute."
She shared an email she received from the college that stated, "All Miami Dade College (MDC) classes and operations are proceeding as normally scheduled."
As of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, the pre-recorded student hotline message was, "There are no reported emergencies or disasters affecting any of our campus locations or outreach centers."
Miami-Dade County is under a tropical storm warning and officials are warning that the storm could cause serious damage.
By 11:40 a.m, the college updated its student hotline message alerting students that classes would be canceled starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday and all day Thursday. The college will decide if will open Friday at a later time.
