Knight Cities Challenges Opens Applications in Miami

The James L. Knight foundation is opening applications in Miami for its first-ever Knight Cities Challenge, which looks to make cities better and more successful.

Twenty-five communities across the United States will vie for a share of $5 million. According to a press release, the ideas can originate from anywhere, but they must benefit Miami or one of the other 25 Knight communities.

“No project is too small — so long as your idea is big,” says Carol Coletta, Knight Foundation vice president for community and national initiatives. “Our hope is to inspire people — even those who have not previously thought of themselves as civic innovators — to get involved in shaping the future of their cities.”

Ideas submitted should focus on attracting and keeping talent, creating economic prospects and breaking down divides, and spur connections and civic involvement.

Applications will be accepted through Nov. 14 at KnightCities.org.
