How David Lee Windecher Went From Defendant to Defense Attorney

12/09/15  - On Wednesday’s Topical Currents we visit with a native Miamian who actually moved from a defendant . . . to a defense attorney.

He’sDavid Lee Windecher, a former gang member, drug dealer and crime ring leader. But, after 13 arrests, he saw the light.  Last May he was sworn in as an attorney, in the same courtroom where he appeared in handcuffs and jumpsuit. Now, he’s written an autobiography called “The American Dream: HisStory in the Making.”That’s Topical Currents . . . Wednesday at one o’clock.

Richard Ives came to WLRN in September 2000 to begin a new career in radio. Born in Fort Lauderdale, his family moved to Long Island, New York, where he grew up. After graduation from college and an unsatisfying stint in a job that, as he puts it, "paid the bills but for which I had no passion" he found himself contemplating a midlife career change after being laid-off.
