SECRETS OF THE DEAD: Jamestown's Dark Winter - Science/History - Follow archeologists and forensic anthropologists as they excavate the early American colony to uncover a dark secret hidden for more than 400 years.

Jamestown, Virginia. The site of the first permanent English colony the Americas settled in 1607 and the home of the archeological site “Historic Jamestown today. It has long been speculated that the harsh conditions faced by the colonists during the winter of 1609, often referred to as the “starving time,” might have made them desperate enough to participate in the unthinkable, and perhaps even commit murder to do so.

Archeologists have been excavating in Jamestown for more than 20 years. In April 2012, a team of Historic Jamestown archeologists discovered something surprising in their excavation. In the trash layer of a cellar, among the butchered animal bones and household trash discarded by the Jamestown colonists, they found the mutilated skull and severed leg of a 14-year-old English girl dating back to 1609. What can these bones tell us about what really happened at Jamestown?

Vampire Legend

SECRETS OF THE DEAD: Vampire Legend - Science/Mystery - The investigation into why vampires have such a hold on our imagination, and whether the undead might still lurk among us.

In 1897, Bram Stoker penned his gothic novel Dracula and popularized the modern vampire myth with the introduction of Count Dracula. But the discovery of manuscripts dating back to medieval England suggest the belief that the dead could rise from the grave originated during a much earlier era. These accounts were written hundreds of years before Stoker created his nocturnal creature, long before the Eastern European legends gained popularity.

Follow scientists as they uncover “deviant” burials dating back to medieval England, pointing to a belief that the dead could rise from their graves. Predating Eastern European legend, these discoveries force a re-examination of modern vampire lore.

WAR OF THE WORLDS: American Experience - History

It took place the night before Halloween, 1938, long known as Mischief Night. Like many other ordinary evenings, millions of Americans turned on their radios for some evening entertainment. Those tuned into CBS Radio were treated to an unusual dramatization of H.G. Wells' classic The War of the Worlds, performed by 23-year-old Orson Welles and his Mercury Theater on the Air. Although most listeners understood that the program was a radio drama, the next day's headlines reported that thousands of others -- perhaps a million or more -- plunged into panic, convinced that America was under a deadly Martian attack.

CRICKLEY HALL - Psychological Thriller - A year after their son goes missing, a family moves to Crickley Hall. When supernatural events begin to take place, Eve feels the house is somehow connected to her lost son.

The series presents two parallel dramas. The main storyline, set in 2006, follows the events of the Caleigh family who rent Crickley Hall because Gabe Caleigh  gets a short contract in the area; the other is a series of flashbacks following events in 1943 when orphans – who have been evacuated from London during World War II – are living at Crickley Hall.

Gabe Caleigh, his wife Eve, and their children, Loren, Cameron and Cally, live in London. One day Cam goes missing. Eve falls asleep for a few seconds at a playground and he simply disappears. Eleven months later, Gabe suggests relocating the family in the north of England, near the east coast in the hope that a change of scenery will give Eve some comfort, as she clings to the hope that Cam may still be alive.

EPISODE 1 When Eve Caleigh and her family arrive at Crickley Hall, they hope to escape the past. But the past has other ideas, and the trapped ghosts that haunt the hall seem to be sending her a message that not only her son is alive, but that they know where he is.

EPISODE 2 While her family are terrorised by a ghost with a cane, Eve desperately tries to discover the reason for the haunting that may lead her to find her missing son. She begs a psychic for help, and a seance provokes the ghost to further violence.

EPISODE 3 An expert on Crickley Hall arrives to help Eve and her family but the ghost has already put plans in motion to cause further grief for Eve. Just as she comes close to finding her missing son, her other children come under threat.
