The chief lawyer for Broward County schools never consulted with the School Board before requesting that a judge hold the South Florida Sun Sentinel and two reporters in contempt of court for publishing an uncensored report about the Parkland school shooter.
General Counsel Barbara Myrick said she made the decision along with another attorney for the district and never consulted the board, even though the action was filed on the board’s behalf.
Several board members said at a tense meeting Tuesday that they found out about the action only by reading it in the Sun Sentinel.
