Broward Sheriff's Office Launches Fact-Checking Site For Stoneman Douglas High Shooting

BSO clarifies several "claims" on its fact-checking page geared toward the public and media.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is trying to set the record straight on developments after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

BSO launched its own fact-checking website this week, giving a rundown of major announcements from the agency since the Feb. 14 shooting.

The list includes the last time deputies trained for an active shooter scenario and whether “countless warning signs” were missed.

The site also clarifies a recent revelation regarding the agency’s protocol during the shooting. Deputies formed a perimeter around the building after the gunfire stopped.

Besides BSO, several other agencies and government officials are conducting investigations into the shooting and the confessed gunman Nikolas Cruz, who was indicted this week on 17 counts of first-degree premeditated murder.

Former FBI Director Louis Freeh is considering leading the Broward County Commission’s independent investigation, according to the Sun Sentinel.
Gov. Rick Scott called for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to look into the police response.
Broward Public Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie announced this week that the Collaborative Education Network Inc. will review Cruz’s time as a student.
