Miami is a finalist for Super Bowls in 2016 an 2017. Only problem: There are other finalists - San Francisco and Houston - and each has a younger, better-looking and better-equipped stadium. The possibility of hosting the big game, the Miami Herald reports today, may put some steam behind a drive for taxpayer-funded renovations to Sun Life Stadium.
During a press conference Tuesday in Chicago, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the Dolphins “feel that [renovations] are a large part of their bid.” Added Frank Supovitz, a top NFL executive: “I really don’t have any insight as to how renovations would play for a bid, except to say you do have two strong contenders with which you’re competing and they both have state-of-the-art facilities.”
So, how do rivals view Miami's chances of getting another Super Bowl? A Houston Chronicle blogger is skeptical because of our stadium issues. And San Francisco honchos are planning to fight for an event that their studies show could be worth up to half a billion dollars in economic activity.
