Trina Sargalski

Trina Sargalski is a multimedia producer and reporter for WLRN Miami Herald News. She also writes about food as the Miami editor of Tasting Table and as the editor of Miami Dish.  

Trina has received several awards as part of the radio and web team for the "Under the Sun" series, which she helped create. She was web and radio producer of  the "Remembering Andrew" documentary, for which she won a 2013 "Best in Show" Green Eyeshade Award along with Alicia Zuckerman, Kenny Malone, Sammy Mack and the WLRN-Miami Herald News team. 

She's a Miami native who has learned to love her city just like you learn to love that pesky brother or weird relative. Trina's passions are good food and good stories.

Peru's Most Famous Chef Will Open A Restaurant In Miami

Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio will open a branch of his restaurant chain, La Mar, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Brickell Key.

Acurio is Peru's most famous chef. He's most well-known for popularizing  traditional and modern versions of Peruvian cuisines, including ceviches, Asian-Peruvian dishes and Andean cookery, at dozens of restaurants around the world.

The Cuban Kitchen: Miami Blogger Cooks Her Way Through Nitza Villapol Book

Nitza Villapol was basically the Julia Child of Cuba. She wrote dozens of editions of her cookbook, Cocina al Minuto, and she hosted a Cuban TV show of the same name for 45 years. In many Cuban kitchens, there's a well-worn copy of one of her cookbooks tucked in a kitchen drawer.

Christina Gomez-Pina, in Kendall, had a copy of the cookbook on her bookshelf. Her mother-in-law gave her Cocina al Minuto on Gomez-Pina's wedding day: "It sat on the shelf for nine years except for one time when I used it to make a dulce de leche cortadito."

Bren Herrera, 34, grew up hearing her mother, Betty, 62, tell stories about life as a young wife and mother in 1960's and 1970's Cuba, when food shortages and rationing were part of life.
